Bovine meat and Bone Meal as an Economically Viable Alternative in Quail Feeding in the Final Phase Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Pizzolante,CC; Moraes,JE; Kakimoto,SK; Budiño,FEL; Móri,C; Soares,DF; Saccomani,APO.
ABSTRACT Bovine meat and bone meal (MBM) has been used as a low-cost protein source in corn- and soybean meal-based poultry diets. However, to date, no studies investigating the effect of the dietary inclusion of MBM on the performance of Japanese quails and on egg production costs were found in literature. In this study, 600 Japanese quails in lay were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design consisting of six treatments (replacement levels of soybean meal by MBM:0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5%) with five replicates of 20 birds each to investigate if MBM is a viable alternative to maintain or to improve the live and economic performances of these birds. Treatments consisted of a control diet, based on corn and soybean meal, with no inclusion of...

Bovine meat and bone meal is an economically viable alternative in quail feeding in the initial phase Anais da ABC (AABC)
Pizzolante,Carla C.; Kakimoto,Sérgio K.; Moraes,José E.; Saccomani,Ana Paula O.; Soares,Daniela F.; Paschoalin,Gustavo C.; Budiño,Fábio E.L..
Quail egg production has experienced a steep rise in the last decade. Nutrition is the main factor affecting productive potential in the poultry industry, as appropriate nutritional management is necessary to ensure the maintenance of optimal physical conditions, growth and the production of high quality products. Meat and bone meal (MBM) has often been used in the poultry industry as an alternative and cost-effective source of protein in partial replacement of corn and soybean meal. However, there have been no studies to date that have investigated the effect of dietary MBM on the performance of quail or on the costs of production in the starter phase. This is particularly important considering that this phase is characterized by large investments by...

Effects of calcium levels and limestone particle size on the egg quality of semi-heavy layers in their second production cycle Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Pizzolante,CC; Saldanha,ESPB; Laganá,C; Kakimoto,SK; Togashi,CK.
A 112-day trial was carried out to evaluate the effect of dietary calcium level and limestone particle size on the egg quality of 288 Hy-Line Brown semi-heavy layers, with 83 weeks of age at the beginning of the experiment. A completely randomized experimental design was applied in a 2x3 factorial arrangement, with two dietary calcium levels (3.5 and 4.0%) e three limestone particle size compositions (100% fine limestone (FL), with 0.185mm; 30% coarse limestone (CL), with 2.83mm, + 70% FL, with 0.185mm; and 50% CL, with 2.83mm, + 50% FL, with 0.185mm), with six replicates of eight birds each. Mean geometric diameter and in-vitro solubility of the limestone sources were, respectively, 0.185mm and 18.7% for the fine limestone, and 2.83mm and 10.5% for the...

Limestone and oyster shell for brown layers in their second egg production cycle Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Pizzolante,CC; Kakimoto,SK; Saldanha,ESPB; Laganá,C; Souza,HBA; Moraes,JE.
This study aimed at evaluating the effect of dietary calcium levels and the replacement of calcium sources with different particle size compositions on the performance and egg quality of brown layers in their second egg production cycle. A randomized block experimental design was applied with 12 treatments in a 3x4 factorial arrangement: three calcium levels (2.6, 3.2, 3.8 %) and four combinations of calcium sources (1- 100% fine limestone (FL), 2- 50% FL + 50% coarse limestone (CL), 3- 50% FL and 50% oyster shell (OS), 4- 50% FL and 25% CL+ 25 %OS), with six replicates of eight birds each. Calcium sources were analyzed for geometric mean diameter (GMD) and in-vitro solubility. The following performance and egg quality parameters were evaluated: egg weight...

Methodology adjustments for organic acid tolerance studies in oat under hydroponic systems BABT
Kopp,Mauricio Marini; Luz,Viviane Kopp da; Souza,Velci Queiróz de; Coimbra,Jefferson Luis Meirelles; Sousa,Rogério Oliveira de; Carvalho,Fernando Irajá Félix de; Oliveira,Antonio Costa de.
The occurrence of anaerobic conditions in hydromorphic soils favors the development of anaerobic microorganisms that produce phytotoxic substances representing primarily by organic acids. The selection of promising oat (Avena sativa L.) genotypes for use in those situations requires field evaluations that can be cumbersome, making hydroponics a viable alternative. The objective of this work was to adjust a methodology to use in studies of tolerance to organic acids in oat under hydroponic systems. For such goal, the best germination system was determined in order to reduce the seedling initial establishment effects under hydroponics, the ideal concentration for screening genotypes and the best variable for stress evaluation. It was found that the most...

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in the marine environment: Spatial distribution and temporal profile shifts in shellfish from French coasts ArchiMer
Munschy, Catherine; Bely, Nadege; Pollono, Charles; Aminot, Yann.
Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) were investigated in filter-feeding shellfish collected from 2013 to 2017 along the English Channel, Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of France. PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), PFTrDA (perfluorotridecanoic acid), PFTeDA (perfluorotetradecanoic acid), PFDoDA (perfluorododecanoic acid) and PFUnDA (perfluoroundecanoic acid) were detected in more than 80% of samples, thus indicating widespread contamination of the French coastal environment by these chemicals. The distribution of PFAS concentrations showed differences according to sampling locations and years. PFOS was the predominant PFAS in most samples collected from English Channel and Atlantic coasts until 2014, but the opposite was observed in 2015, 2016 and 2017,...

Production of drip irrigated squash (Cucurbita Pepo, L.) under different levels of irrigation and uniformity CIGR Journal
Elnemr, Moataz Kamal; Elmetwalli, Adel Helal.
This study aimed to get the most possible benefit of using deficit irrigation to maximize water productivity of squash, besides investigating the ability of drip irrigation uniformity to reduce the effect of deficit irrigation on squash crop production (Cucurbita pepo - Hybrid Revera). Three levels of irrigation uniformity levels (UL) based on the value of uniformity coefficient (UC) namely excellent (E), very good (VG), and unacceptable (UA) were examined with three irrigation levels based on crop evapotranspiration (ETc) which were full irrigation (FI or 100% ETc) to be compared to two defecit irrigation levels 90% ETc (DI90), and 80% ETc (DI80). Results showed that both UL and DI had significant effect on squash production. There was significant...
